Learn how to improve your website’s user experience

Optimising your website for a great user experience is vital to its long-term success on the web. While page load speed continues to be an important user experience and ranking factor, there are other experience aspects such as interaction with pages and their responsiveness, mobile friendliness or secure connections for safe browsing. We will conduct a page experience audit to provide in-depth information about your website’s current user experience with analysis and recommendations for improvement.

Why is user experience so important?

Optimising your website for quality of user experience is crucial to its long-term success on the web. The loading time, responsiveness and visual stability account for what Google call “Core Web Vitals”. Combined with mobile-friendliness, secure connections for safe browsing, no intrusive interstitials or pop-ups, they are a set of user-centered metrics which quantify how users perceive the experience of interacting with webpages in Google.

Optimising for these factors is essential to delivering a great user experience, together with high quality and engaging content. Although these aspects are already ranking factors in Google’s algorithm today, a search ranking update is expected in 2021, which will introduce a new ranking signal that combines Core Web Vitals with existing signals for page experience. With the use of field data (real-life user experience data), it is essential to focus on optimising page experience in light of this upcoming update.

With this service, we will conduct a page experience audit on your website, providing in-depth information about your website’s current user experience, along with analysis and recommendations for improvement.

How it works

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

We will start by examining your website’s Google Search Console Core Web Vitals report to identify sections of the website that require attention and collect field data about your website’s user performance. Following this, we will use various tools to diagnose lab and field issues and form actionable guidance on what should be addressed or fixed.

In the audit, we will analyse various factors and aspects which account for user experience such as page load speed metrics, responsiveness, the stability and mobile-friendliness of pages, usage of secure connections (HTTPS), and any other issues which may negatively be impacting page experience.

The audit will provide supporting data in the form of graphs and data tables, along with detailed analysis and actionable recommendations.

Please note that in order for us to carry out this audit, we require the following:

  • The website needs to be live for at least three months to allow for reliable field data.
  • We must be given granted access to a valid Google Search Console property for the website to be audited. If a Google Search Console account has not been created for the website, it will be necessary to first set it up and wait a few weeks for it to populate with enough data.
