A study by YouGov has revealed the key factors that commonly lead Australians to boycott brands. A brand trying to cover-up a scandal was the reason that Australians reacted most strongly against. Product recalls, faulty products, unhealthy products, corruption and offensive ads were also cited as common reasons that a buyer might boycott a brand. The majority of these boycotters never return to the brand. 59% of respondents said that they would never return to a brand they had boycotted, with another 22% saying that if they did return to the brand then they would not buy from it as frequently as before.
