US Peer-To-Peer Payments To Hit $120 Billion In 2017

Peer-to-peer payment transactions are expected to hit 120 billion US dollars in the US this year. eMarketer predicts that usage of P2P mobile apps will grow in the double digits until 2021. This year alone, the transaction value of P2P payments in the US will grow by 55%, with nearly a third of all smartphone users in the country using such platforms. eMarketer's Cindy Liu said that “mobile P2P payments have been driven by the desire for convenience, on-demand payments and the widespread adoption of smartphones”. Meanwhile, the growth in overall transaction value on mobile payment apps is slowing significantly, from 183% growth in 2016, to 78% in 2017. The report states that this is likely due to not enough merchants implementing the technology.
