Twitter is now the leading social network in Japan. According to estimates made by eMarketer based upon data in the country, 25.1 million people in the country will use the platform this year – the equivalent to 47% of its entire social media userbase. This means that the site beats Facebook, which is believed to hold a 40% share of the market. However, the country will also record the lowest social media penetration in all of the Asia Pacific region, due to its much older population. According to the survey, just 51% of those in Japan will use social media, much lower than the average 71% from all other countries in the region.
