Spotify Launches In Japan

The music streaming service Spotify has finally launched in Japan. 18 months after opening an office in the country's capital, Tokyo, the company has now launched in what is the world's second largest music market behind the US. Spotify, which launched in Sweden in 2008, currently has 40 million paying subscribers worldwide and first entered an Asian market in 2013. However, Japan's music buyers prefer to purchase music physically at music stores than digitally over the internet, an issue that Spotify will have to overcome if it intends to add to its current number of paying users.
