Pakistan Slams Anti-Military Social Media Users

Pakistani authorities have cracked down on social media users criticising the country's armed services. Announced on the 14th of May, Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency said that it will now take measures against activists who are engaging in what they called "condemnable" activities. The Pakistani Interior Minister said that “ridiculing the Pakistan army or its officers on social media” was “unacceptable”, even in the name of freedom of speech. Khan added that it was now a “serious offence” to be caught doing so online, whether it was intentional or not, although he did not specify exactly what the punishment would be. The announcement comes after the military was outraged at a report in the Pakistani press that the military was reluctant to crack down on terrorism in the country.
