New Social Network Nextdoor Launches In The UK

A new social network named 'Nextdoor' has launched in the UK. Following success in the United States and the Netherlands, the social network aims to bring neighbours and communities closer together through encouraging social interaction. Nextdoor has already been trialled across the UK in nearly 500 smaller areas, and has found success in making people aware of local crime. The company's CEO, Nirav Tolia, said everyone “would benefit from a platform that makes it easier to connect and communicate with the people who live right next door”, adding that closer communities would help in the aftermath of the recent 'Brexit' vote. Users upload their full address and are then connected with people in their area, allowing them to see updates and posts from their online connections. However, the site has come under fire in the US, following claims it racially profiled black users when reporting local criminal activity.
