Mobile Penetration In Africa Hits 80%

Research by Jumia has revealed that mobile penetration in Africa has hit 80%. The continent now has 960 million mobile subscriptions, equivalent to 8 in 10 of the population. Internet penetration is lower, however, at just 18% across Africa, equivalent to 216 million people. The proportion of smartphones has increased, driven by lower prices and better optimised websites that are designed to use as little data as possible. Infinix was named as the most popular smartphone brand across the continent, with its entry-level Hot4Life model proving especially popular.
