Google To Launch AI Research Centre In China

Google has announced that it is going to launch an AI research centre in China. The AI research team will be based in Google's existing office in Beijing, and aims to hire local Chinese talent. AI is an area that the Chinese government is keen for the country to progress in. President Xi recently urged the country to catch up with the US in terms of AI research. It is not clear when the Google AI research centre is going to begin work, but it will be headed by Fei-Fei Li who commented on the announcement, saying: “We look forward to working with the brightest AI researchers in China to help find solutions to the world's problems.”
