Germany Goes Head To Head With Facebook And Wins

Facebook has come up against controversy in Germany following a standoff with authorities. The drama came about following the uploading of an anti-Semitic post from a far-right German group on the social network. With such strict laws in the country against such acts against minorities, including denying the Holocaust, German authorities acted quickly once made aware of the situation, eventually forcing Facebook to remove the post. The company at first refused to remove the post, called “Jews Among Us”, as they insisted that it didn't break any of their own “free speech” rules. Only after another 48 hours was the post removed, after the German government contacted the site. The incident represents another instance where nations' authorities have confronted Facebook regarding how to deal with inappropriate content, and is part of increasing pressure for the site to regulate what is posted online.
