Facebook Usage Falls Amongst Teens

Facebook is seeing its appeal amongst teens fall, whilst Instagram and Snapchat adoption is rocketing in the US and the UK. According to recent forecasts from eMarketer, Instagram and Snapchat usage in the two markets is expected to increase significantly. Meanwhile, forecasts for Facebook usage this year amongst users aged between 12 and 24 have been reduced, indicating that younger users are leaving the social media giant in favour of other platforms. In the US, it is predicted that 14.5 million people between 12 and 17 will use Facebook this year, a drop of 3.4% on 2016. Oscar Orozco, a forecasting analyst at eMarketer, said that teens are “less engaged” on Facebook than in the past, whilst Instagram is expected to see a 19% increase in usage in the demographic. Orozco added that young teenagers are now growing up and overlooking Facebook entirely, whilst still engaging with apps such as Snapchat and Instagram.
