Facebook is again looking to introduce affordable internet to developing areas of India. Coming soon after Facebook failed to launch of its Free Basics programme, the company is now working with “carriers, internet service providers and local entrepreneurs” to launch its Express Wi-Fi service in developing areas. Express Wi-Fi allows users to purchase cheap and affordable Wi-Fi data packs, in an attempt to “bring all of India online”. Whilst the Free Basics idea received criticism for only allowing a Facebook-censored version of the internet, Express Wi-Fi allows a wider-reaching internet service.
