The European Commission has issued new guidelines to control the sale of products online. The notice aims to help EU countries enforce both the EU's market surveillance legislation and its Single Market Strategy legislation. The guidelines say that “any product sold online in the EU has to comply with relevant EU legislation, even if the producer is based outside of the EU”. It also says that all parties involved in the supply chain, including logistics companies, are responsible for ensuring that products are EU-compliant. Sanctions and penalties will be given to any sellers or distributors who do not comply.
