BlackBerry Announces Indonesian Expansion Plans

Despite a fall in success globally, BlackBerry still enjoys good levels of popularity in Indonesia with BBM, which falls just behind international chat apps such as WhatsApp and Line. The company has now announced that it intends to move BBM towards being a more social platform from which a wider range of services can be accessed. Once the platform is fully operational, BlackBerry has said that users will be able to stream video from iFlix, buy items from Bukalapak, and access regionally popular apps such as Kudo and Lakupon. All these options will work with the current BBM setup, whilst turning the current chat app into a one-stop shop for users to access many ecommerce sites immediately. The company is also teaming up with Sepulsa, which will give consumers the option to use digital payment from the app.
