This is a recording of a talk given at the International Search Summit Barcelona 2023. Hreflang is, and has been, regarded as one of the more complicated elements of SEO, with search engines sometimes choosing to index alternate versions of websites, ignoring the hreflang directives. With indexing becoming more of a challenge, Dan Taylor from SALT.agency looked at 1,000 global companies with hreflang networks to determine the scale at which Google is choosing not to index alternate versions, and common trends and themes between languages and regions. As well as showing the problems, Dan aims to provide insights into how to address those issues.
