Described as 'next-generation e-commerce', the term 'mcommerce' was originally devised by Kevin Duffy in 1997 as "the delivery of electronic commerce capabilities directly into the consumer's hand, anywhere, via wireless technology." Nowadays, the meaning still holds true but the technology has moved on to include any consumer transaction made through a mobile device (such as a smartphone or tablet), using wireless internet connection technology. This can include online banking, any form of online payment, or placing an online shopping order.Â
