Twitter is considering introducing a paid membership option that would give users access to advanced features. According to Twitter, the paid membership idea, which is still in the planning stages, would “provide valuable viewing, posting, and signalling tools like alerts, trends and activity analysis, advanced analytics, and composing and posting tools all in one customisable dashboard”. The social media company sent out a survey to a small selection of users asking for their feedback on the idea. If the idea went ahead, it would provide Twitter with a much needed extra source of revenue because Twitter’s advertising revenues, which make up most of its income, are currently falling. Twitter currently has around 313 million monthly active users.
