Pinterest has shown off its new visual search technology. At an event in New York, Pinterest’s president showed off a feature that can serve ads after a user takes a photo on their smartphone. Users can take a picture of an item, and Pinterest will use the image as a search term, and find similar colours, textures and shapes. Advertisers could then reach users in the search result pages. Pinterest added that the technology was set to be released “in the near-term”, and could offer huge marketing opportunities further down the line.
