The online streaming site, Netflix, has revealed data showing that it now has more than 100 million subscribers around the world. This growth has helped see the company’s share price grow by around 64% in just the past twelve months. Netflix’s founder, Reed Hastings, commented on the success, saying that “creating a TV network is now as easy as creating an app”, and that the business was “replacing linear TV”. Last year the service expanded into 130 new markets. Because of this, over 52 million of its subscribers now come from outside its home market of the US.
