A few months ago, Facebook launched a new immersive advertising medium called Canvas. Canvas ads are fast-loading and expand to full-screen size to allow users to do things, like buy an item on a website-style interface, without actually leaving the social network. In Facebook’s own words, it’s an advertising format “where advertisers can use a mix of video, still images, text and call-to-action buttons to build beautiful and effective brand and product experiences on mobile.” Several brands have achieved extremely positive results from their Canvas advertising campaigns, including Coca Cola, ASUS and L’Occitane. Coca Cola’s Canvas ad included images and video promoting its special edition aluminium bottles, reached almost 16 million people and was watched for an average of 18 seconds. ASUS focused on avoiding buying bad gifts for people in its ad. An impressive 70% of people who clicked on the ad went on to go to the ASUS website.
