Facebook Overtakes BBM As Top Social Site In Indonesia

Facebook has overtaken BBM as the leading social media platform in Indonesia. The country has been Blackberry Messenger's last remaining stronghold, with 19% of Indonesia's internet users on BBM in January. Facebook had 15% at the same time. Now however, according to a study by We Are Social, BBM has 60 million active users in the country, compared to Facebook's 88 million, meaning BBM has finally lost out to the social media giant. Interestingly in the country, males dominate social media use, with far more men using it than women – particularly in the older age brackets. Meanwhile, not only has BBM lost out to Facebook in active user numbers, but it also has lost its top ranking position in Google's Play Store to WhatsApp.
