Facebook has announced a new dedicated video feature for its website and app. The feature will first be rolled out to a limited number of people in the US, before then being rolled out further. Users will be able to click on the new ‘Watch’ tab, where they will be able find new shows based on what their friends are watching. The company’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, said that the feature will “be a chance to share an experience and bring people together who care about the same things”. The move will bring the online giant into competition with video streaming services such as Netflix and traditional TV channels, since Facebook will be funding some of the video content available themselves. A sport option will also be added next year in partnership with the sports channel ESPN.
