EU privacy regulators have been forced to approach messaging app, WhatsApp, regarding sharing user data with its parent company, Facebook. In a letter sent to the messaging app, the European watchdog made it clear that WhatsApp should stop sharing the data until it was clear that no laws were being broken, and that there were “serious concerns” about the activity. This comes after Facebook made an announcement little over one month ago that more data would be shared between the two social media platforms, something that went against an earlier promise from both companies. The investigation into the potential law breaking will be undertaken by the Article 29 Working Party, an association of data regulators across Europe. WhatsApp has responded to the letter, saying that there had been “constructive conversations”, and that it was “committed to respecting applicable law."
