Using a tool which simulates a search engine crawler, we will crawl your entire website and conduct an audit on your website structure, URL components and browser compatibilities to detect any issues that might inhibit indexation in the search engines. The audit covers vital search engine ranking factors including website structure, crawlability, indexing, on-page elements such as page titles, meta description, keyword grouping, as well as content, and off-page elements such as backlinks.

How website audit works

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the audit and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

An SEO strategist, under the supervision of your account manager, will crawl your website with a tool that mimics a search engine spider and will audit the following technical aspects of your website:

  • Robot.txt check - By writing a structured text file you can indicate to robots (search engine crawlers) that certain parts of your server are off-limits to some or all robots. We will check robot.txt files to ensure they are in line with the objectives of your website.
  • Broken links - A broken link not only gives a negative impression of your website to your visitor, it is also not recommended for the search engines, as it represents a dead-end for the crawlers. We will provide a summary of all broken links on your website.
  • Redirected links - Unnecessary redirected links should be avoided to ensure internal linking consistency. Certain types of redirects are not search engine friendly and should also be avoided. We will provide a summary of all redirects used on your website.
  • Browser compatibility - It is important that your website can be viewed with the most significant browsers used globally. We will simulate how your website is viewed which will help us identify any issues with the underlying source code of the website in each browser, as they may interpret your code in different ways.
