Meta data check
Meta data tells the search engines about the contents of your webpages
Good meta data is important for your rankings
Search engines use meta data to understand the contents of webpages and display the most appropriate results to search queries. It is essential that your website has optimised meta data that does not contain errors and is correctly uploaded, as any bugs or faulty uploads will stop the search engines from understanding your webpages and damage your search engine rankings. We will audit your website, identifying any problems with your meta data or webpages where meta data is missing, and deliver these to you in an Excel format, including a description of the problem.
A meta data check can help...
When you already have a set of meta data but are not sure of its quality.
When your meta data has been translated and needs to be SEO checked.
What is meta data?
Meta data is added to your website template and is used by search engine spiders to help them determine the contents of the webpage and whether it should rank for particular search queries or not. Having good meta data can help you to rank well for relevant keywords, boosting your website traffic and conversions. Conversely, having missing or faulty meta data can damage your rankings.
Each webpage on your website should have different meta data, which consists of a title tag, keyword tag and meta description tag.
We will conduct an audit on your website to identify any webpages without meta data and/or with faulty meta data uploads.
What a meta data check includes
The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire with your Project Manager to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.
A native SEO Specialist, under the supervision of your Project Manager, will conduct an audit of your website, identifying any webpages that have problems with their meta data. The issues that can be identified are:
- missing tags, blank tags (="")
- too long/too short tags
- duplicate tags
- multiple tags on a same webpage
- errors in tags (e.g. wrong format, missing punctuation)
- meta robots tags check
- rel="canonical" check
The audit will be delivered to you in an Excel format and will contain information about any specific issues identified.
