What is meta data?

Meta data is added to your website template and is used by search engine spiders to help them determine the contents of the webpage and whether it should rank for particular search queries or not. Having good meta data can help you to rank well for relevant keywords, boosting your website traffic and conversions. Conversely, having missing or faulty meta data can damage your rankings.

Each webpage on your website should have different meta data, which consists of a title tag, keyword tag and meta description tag.

We will conduct an audit on your website to identify any webpages without meta data and/or with faulty meta data uploads.

What a meta data check includes

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire with your Project Manager to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

A native SEO Specialist, under the supervision of your Project Manager, will conduct an audit of your website, identifying any webpages that have problems with their meta data. The issues that can be identified are:

  • missing tags, blank tags (="")
  • too long/too short tags
  • duplicate tags
  • multiple tags on a same webpage
  • errors in tags (e.g. wrong format, missing punctuation)
  • meta robots tags check
  • rel="canonical" check
