Duplicate content check
Could duplicate content on your website be damaging your rankings?
Don’t let duplicate pages harm your SEO
Duplicate content is content that is repeated in large chunks on different URLs. Duplicate content should be avoided as it leads search engines to give these pages a lower ranking in the search results pages, which in turn leads to reduced traffic. An SEO Specialist will conduct a check of your website to identify any duplicate content and will provide an action plan on what to do next, whether this is simply a case of adding canonical tags or if a whole de-duplication process needs to take place.
A duplicate content check can help…
When you want to improve your international SEO efforts.
When you are unsure if your website may contain duplicate content.
When your website is suffering from poor rankings and you suspect duplicate content may be the cause.
Why is duplicate content a problem?
Duplicate content is defined as large blocks of the same content on different URLs. This can occur on different websites or within the same one, and can be an exact copy or just contain extremely similar wording. There are various causes of internal duplicate content such as canonicalisation issues, rendering the same or similar content with parameters appended to URLs or replicating untranslated content onto different language versions of a website.
Duplicate content should be avoided because it causes problems for search engines when they crawl your website. When search engines encounter duplicate content, they will only rank the page which they identify as having the original content, disregarding the other pages. This can ultimately lead to a reduction in traffic to your website and poor visibility for your brand. Furthermore, Google actually imposes penalties on websites that contain internal duplicate content, giving the duplicated pages, or sometimes the entire website, a lower ranking.
We will identify duplicated content on your website and provide an action plan advising you on what steps you should take next to fix these problems.
How it works
The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks. We will need to know your website URL.
An SEO Specialist will crawl your website and manually check your pages for duplicate content. They will then produce an action plan for any duplicate content, advising you on whether you should simply add canonical tags or if a whole content de-duplication process needs to take place.
You will receive this report in a PDF and Excel format.
