Improve traffic to your website from Google Images

Image search on Google is the second-most highly used search platform behind Google.com. It accounts for more searches than those performed on YouTube, Google Maps, Amazon and Facebook combined. Optimising images provides Google with extra information that is used to determine an image’s relevance to a search query. Having your images ranking highly in Google Images can help to promote a brand, product, service or business. Our image optimisation audit will provide an analysis and recommendations of how to improve the rankings of selected images for given queries.

An image optimisation audit for Google Images can help…

When your images do not appear in Google Images for relevant search queries.

When your images are ranking poorly in Google Images.

When you want your website to rank with a different image than is currently ranking in Google Images.

When you want to analyse your website’s image rankings in Google Images.

Why is Google Images important?

Image search on Google is the second most highly used search platform behind Google.com. It accounts for more searches than those performed on YouTube, Google Maps, Amazon and Facebook combined. Considering the search volume on Google Images and the fact that visuals are becoming more important in engaging and reaching consumers, image optimisation is a crucial component of SEO.

Google analyses various factors which it uses to determine an image's relevancy to the search query. Optimising images to rank well in Google Images can be used to promote a brand, product, person, service or business. Images which are not optimised will fail to provide Google with extra information that it can use to determine the image’s relevance to search queries. This can lead to fewer clicks and less traffic going to the website hosting those images.

How it works

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives and supply all the information needed to deliver this service. The briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

Based on the submitted brief, an analysis will be performed for rankings of your website’s images in Google Images for a defined set of search queries (keywords) specified in the project brief. The objective of the analysis is to explain why your image rankings are not as high as they could be, as well as indicating tactics which competitors may be using and providing solutions for improving those rankings based on known factors which Google considers when ranking images in Google Images.

Some of the factors which the analysis will focus on include:

  • relevance of the image, its quality and size
  • relevance of the webpage displaying the image
  • content on the webpage surrounding the image
  • image caption, image meta data
  • external citations and links to the image
  • analysis of these factors for higher ranking images

This analysis typically does not include the actual optimisation work such as writing alt tags or image captions. This requires ordering separate services dedicated to optimisation.
