Why is navigation optimisation important?

It is important that website navigation menu(s) are not only user friendly and easy to access from a user experience point of view, but also that they are SEO-optimised in order to improve page rankings and bring more traffic to the website.

Having a good navigation is important for internal linking optimisation because the menu is usually shown on each page of the website and gives a clear signal to Google about the website structure and priority pages.

We will conduct an analysis of your current navigation structure, showing the potential traffic for each of the pages, and will propose a new navigation structure optimised for users and search engines.

This will help distribute link equity across your website's pages more efficiently, better exposing pages which are valuable by raising their prominence in your website's internal linking structure. This will also help users in finding most visited and searched pages quicker, improving the overall user journey and user experience.

How it works

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives and supply the information needed to deliver this service. The briefing will be visible to all team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

We will need access to your valid Google Search Console account (or Webmaster Tools account for a search engine other than Google), as well as your Google Analytics (or other search analytics tool if you do not use Google Analytics).

Based on the submitted project brief and the analysis of the search data, we will suggest the best navigation structure, taking into consideration various aspects including:

  • organic traffic to the pages
  • aggregated search volumes for each page based on keyword search data
  • current menu structure and linked pages
  • user experience
  • indexation patterns followed by the search engines
  • backlink profile and authority of the pages

Our analysis along with our recommendations with be provided to you either as a PowerPoint or Word document, with appendix material in an Excel file.
