When you need your translated content to fit within a limited space, for example for a text box or header etc.
In certain situations, it may be necessary to restrict the length of a piece of translated content, for example if it is a header or if it needs to fit inside a text box of a fixed size.
If you need your translations to fit within set character limits, we will instruct our translators to produce shorter content in line with your specifications.
This translated content will be delivered to you in your desired format (usually Excel, XML or Word).
The translation process begins with us taking a detailed brief from you, including a style guide questionnaire and terminology glossary to ensure that the content we deliver is in-line with your brand guidelines. We will also work to understand your CMS requirements, consulting with your IT team when required, so that we can export and import the content in the most efficient and seamless way possible.
We will need to know the exact details of your character restrictions, including whether they refer to characters or bytes and whether or not they include spaces. We will also need you to ensure that the source text does not already exceed these limits.
Upon receipt of the source text and your instructions, your project manager will prepare the source file for translation. If the source text is too long, the project manager will liaise with you to discuss how it can be amended.
The content will then be passed to one of our professional translators, who will translate the content within the character restrictions imposed.
Please note that for shorter requirements, the translator may have to use abbreviations. The translation may be of a lower quality than one produced without character restrictions.
This service does not cover the cost of preparing the file for translation when only certain parts of the source document need translating and it needs to be prepared to extract the text and make it compatible with translation. This will be charged at an additional rate.
