As part of a complex software localisation or website translation project, it’s often important to conduct some cosmetic testing prior to the launch of the application or site. Cosmetic testing sees a universal, professional tester working their way through the platform checking that the cosmetic aspects of the application or website has not been affected by the integration of the localised content, noting any amendments which should be made, before delivering this to your team to implement the changes within your application or site.
Here’s when Cosmetic Testing can help!
When you have completed a software localisation project.
When you have completed a mobile application localisation project.
When you have completed a complex website translation project.
When you do not have in-house resources to complete the cosmetic testing yourselves.
As part of a software localisation or complex website translation project, it’s often important to conduct some testing prior to the launch of the application or site. Testing can come in several forms; linguistic, cosmetic and functional.
Once the translated content has been reintegrated with the application or website, it should be hosted on a staging or testing platform in order to allow testers to work through the content in context.
Cosmetic testing sees a universal, professional tester working their way through the platform checking that the cosmetic aspects of the application or website has not been affected by the integration of the localised content, noting any amendments which should be made prior to the content going live. For example, re-sizing of buttons and boxes to accommodate translated strings, localised images, localised contact forms etc.
Cosmetic testers can follow test scripts provided by your team or they can simply work their way through the system identifying any issues or errors which may arise.
The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.
If you have your own test scripts, then we would also need you to provide these at the briefing stage, as well as providing us with access to your staging or testing server.
A universal, professional tester will be tasked with the job of completing the cosmetic tests. The tester will work their way through the platform checking that the cosmetic aspects of the application or website is intact and that there are no issues that may affect the end user journey. They will note any amendments which should be made in an Excel report as well as providing screenshots of any errors or issues to demonstrate the context in which they appear.
The report and screenshots will be delivered to you prior to the launch of your application or website. Your team will be responsible for implementing the amendments, and bug-fixing the cosmetic issues identified during the testing.
Alternatively, you can also outsource these to us at an additional charge before a final QA check is conducted ready for launch.
