Overview

When you have content which requires translating, in order to implement your translation workflow it is often necessary to convert the files prior to being processed. This if often the case when using Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools.

A localisation engineer, or your dedicated project manager, will convert the files into a suitable alternative to make the translation workflow smoother. This could include converting .html files into translation-friendly .xliff, or converting a .pdf into an editable format in order to process with appropriate CAT tools.

By appropriately converting the files, our engineers are minimising the risk of there being potential issues or errors later in the translation workflow.

Quality process

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

Either a member of our engineering team or your dedicated project manager will assess the source files which you have made available to us and decide if they need to be converted into a specific file type in order to be processed correctly during the translation workflow.

File conversion will be carried out using the relevant tools required by your workflow and, once the translation has been completed, will then pass through a post-processing process in order to present the translated content in the original format, ready for delivery. For example this could include back-conversion of a .pdf file ready for publication.

Depending on the requirements of your project and/or complexity of your files you may also incur a charge for the post-processing stage of the project.
