The Chinese messaging app WeChat is set to surpass one billion users. The company has revealed that it currently has 963 million people actively using the app, up nearly 160 million in the past twelve months. Just four years ago, the app had 195 million users worldwide, and it has seen consistent high growth rates ever since. It is thought that the 1 billion user milestone could be passed before the end of this quarter. WeChat has introduced some new features in the last year, including the launch of instant apps in January and the addition of an internet search feature in May. Most of the app's users are based in Tencent's home country of China, but it has also seen success in both Hong Kong and Taiwan.
