Twitter has released its biannual report detailing legal requests made in the first half of 2016. The report gives information on how many appeals were made for content removal, account information and intellectual property violations. Copyright issues were normally highlighted by independent businesses. Requests for user information, however, were more likely to be made by governments. The report shows that in the first six months of the year, over 2,500 requests were made by US government agencies for user information, including 223 from federal agencies. Meanwhile, Turkey and Russia made by far the most content removal requests, with both governments making over 1,500 removal requests, substantially more than France who made the third most requests, with 466. Twitter received 2% more requests from worldwide governments in the first half of 2016, compared to the latter half of 2015.Â
