Twitter has launched several smart TV apps in an attempt to boost user numbers and engagement. It now has apps on Apple TV, Amazon Fire TV and Xbox One and has paid an undisclosed amount of money to have the global rights to screen certain National Football League games. The apps will allow users to view video content and tweets on their TVs. Twitter has said that the TV apps form a crucial part of its “second screen” strategy. Twitter has seen falling shares and stagnating user numbers recently. It has just 313 million monthly active users, compared to Facebook’s 1.7 billion monthly active users.
