Study Reveals What Drives App Installs

Facebook, Google AdWords and being featured drive app installs

Research has found that being “featured” in the App Store leads to an enormous increase in downloads. Every day, the App Store features a different app, which is placed in a prominent position when people are browsing. Research by Apptopia found that being featured leads to a 1,747% increase in downloads for non-gaming apps and a 792% increase in downloads for gaming apps. The effects are strongest if the app is featured on a weekday and if the app is free. Separate research by AppsFlyer looked at the top advertising sources that drove app installs and found that Facebook and Google AdWords were the top sources for both gaming and non-gaming apps.
