Romanian ecommerce grew by 30% in 2016. In total for 2016, the country's online retail market was worth 1.8 billion Euros. This was in part due to an increase of 50% in the Romanian smartphone penetration rate, leading to around 40% of all ecommerce sales in the country coming from a mobile device. This was an increase of 10% from 2015. It is estimated that there are currently “over 20,000 websites in Romania that have shopping flow and add-to-cart buttons active”, with the market continuing to grow.
