Older Brits More Active On Social Media Than Expected

New research has shown that those in the UK aged over 55 use social media more than may be expected. The study, by the email service provider Mailjet, shows that Facebook is the most popular platform amongst older demographics, with nearly 70% of internet users over 55 having an account. This was followed by the fact that nearly a quarter of internet users in the same demographic had used WhatsApp, and 20% had used Twitter. However, unexpectedly high amounts of people having an account does not affect the amount of monthly active users, which is estimated to be around 50% for those over 55 on Facebook. This new data also shows that there are now over 6 million Facebook users over the age of 55, the second largest demographic behind those aged 25 to 34.
