Google To Expand Its Africa Initiative

Google has announced that it is expanding its Africa initiative following a recent Nigerian trip from CEO Sundar Pichai. The expansion will involve an increase in Alphabet funding to start-ups in the African market, and plans to provide grants worth a total 20 million US dollars to digital non-profit organisations. The company will also start to offer modified versions of Alphabet products, such as YouTube, to users who might otherwise have to use standard versions on costlier data plans and slower download speeds. Google's Growth Engine and Brand Lead for Sub-Saharan Africa commented that the company “wants people across the continent to know that Google's here to stay”.
