Google Play will be available on Android Wear smartwatches when the Android Wear 2.0 operating system is released in early 2017. Users will be able to search for and download apps from the Play Store directly to their smartwatch. The update will allow apps to be downloaded to the smartwatch only, and not to the smartphone it is connected to, if the user wishes. To make your app available on Android Wear 2.0, make sure that the minimum SDK level is 24, use run-time permissions, and upload it using multi-APK on the Play Developer Console. Google hopes that the addition of Google Play to Android Wear will improve the user experience and help app developers reach more users.
