Google has launched a new service called Nearby, which informs Android users of apps that are relevant to their geographical location. For example, if a user is in a museum that uses the Nearby technology, they may receive a notification asking them if they want to install an app that provides them with an audio guided tour. Google hopes that this feature will help apps to reach a more targeted, relevant audience. To add your app to the Nearby service, you will need to buy an Eddystone Beacon. These is a physical beacon that you will need to place at your location. You will also need to configure your beacon so that it points to your app. Once you've done this, when a user comes within range of this beacon, they will be asked whether they want to download your app.
