Facebook made 10.1 billion US dollars in advertising in Q3 2017. Ads made up the majority of Facebook's total revenue for the quarter, which totalled 10.3 billion US dollars, up 47% on the same period last year. When costs were taken into account, Facebook saw profits for the quarter of 4.7 billion US dollars. Facebook's CEO Mark Zuckerberg says that he expects profits to be lower next year as the company works to invest in security. The social network is currently under intense scrutiny over the possibility that ads posted on its platform may have influenced the outcome of the 2016 US Presidential election by spreading fake news.Â
