Dailyhunt To Create More Local Indian Language Content

The Indian local language app Dailyhunt has announced 25 million US dollars in funding. The app, formerly called Newshunt, is currently the most used app in the country for news and ebooks, with 28 million monthly active users and 4.5 billion page views a month. The funding is significant, as the huge majority of internet content in India is in English, even though a large number of Indians cannot read the language. Because of this, Dailyhunt has announced that it plans to use the money to expand its already wide-ranging collection of local Indian languages. The company's founder and CEO, Virenda Gupta, has said that “the next 400 million mobile internet users will be local language users”, adding that new users in India “won't consume the internet if it doesn't talk to them in their language”.
