Baidu has been going to extreme lengths to prove the reliability of the safety features within its driverless cars. The company had been demonstrating the autonomous vehicles by having its engineers jump out in front of the car as it was moving at speed. The stunt was successful, as the car swerved to avoid the group of “a few people” that stood in the road. However, whilst Baidu CEO Robin Li said afterwards that the stunt was “not fool proof”, he was heard boasting about it later at a speech he gave to commemorate his own birthday.Â
