Alibaba Saw Huge Success In 2016

1 in 5 Chinese consumers are set to buy from overseas in 2017

Alibaba has announced in its latest earnings report that it now serves 493 million users each month on mobile alone. This number has grown by 100 million users in just the past twelve months. It was also revealed that in the last quarter of 2016, the company made 2.5 billion US dollars in revenue, a more than 50% increase on the same period the previous year. These figures mean that Alibaba comfortably beat the forecasts put forward by analysts. International purchases also saw a large increase in 2016, with a monetary increase of 288%. It has been predicted by eMarketer that just under 20% of the Chinese population will buy from overseas in 2017, which would provide Alibaba with yet another surge in cross-border ecommerce.
