Alibaba Predicts 50% Revenue Increase In 1 Year

Most of this revenue is set to come from advertising

The Chinese internet giant, Alibaba, has announced that it predicts a near 50% revenue increase within the next 12 months. Much of the growth is expected to come from the business' advertising arm, from which 60% of its revenue now comes from. This expected revenue increase is far higher than was projected by forecasters. In a separate eMarketer forecast of the company's digital ad revenues, it was predicted that Alibaba would account for 32% of China's entire digital ad market this year, rising to a 34.3% share by 2019 – a far faster growth than rivals Baidu and Tencent. It is also forecasted that Alibaba will be responsible for generating 7.8% of worldwide digital ad revenues in 2017, behind only Google and Facebook. A spokesperson from eMarketer says that “Alibaba has built one of the most dominant advertising businesses in China, simply because of its scale and access to data of nearly 500 million shoppers across its marketplaces”.
