Alibaba Wants To Expand Singles' Day Beyond China

After this year's Singles' Day sales, Alibaba is hoping to increase the range of the event beyond Chinese borders. The success that Alibaba has seen from the day of sales has meant that the company intends to look at Hong Kong and Taiwan as targets for making the offers available, before taking aim at the entirety of South East Asia. This plan fits well with Alibaba's recent announcement that it has ambitions to create a “World e-Trade Platform” that will enable all countries around the world to sell overseas, regardless of economic size. Daniel Zhang, Alibaba's chief executive, said that he expects the company to “become the future of new retail”. Alibaba's founder Jack Ma has recently said that he has set a target of selling to 2 billion consumers around the world “in the next decade”, so increasing the range of the world's largest sales event will help reach that objective.
