Maintain consistency across your projects with a translation memory

If you are about to embark on a translation project and you want to ensure that consistency and leverage of content is maintained throughout your projects, it is a good idea to create a translation memory (TM) for each of your required languages. Your Project Manager or Localisation Engineer will create a TM using previously translated content or any existing TM(s). Once complete, the TM(s) will be sent to you for approval from your in-country teams.

Translation memory creation can help…

When you are about to embark on a translation project with us.

When you do not have an existing TM.

When you have an existing TM which needs evaluating.

When you want to ensure consistency throughout your projects.

When you want input into the preparation stages of a translation project.

When you want to maximise leverage from previously translated content.

When you want to reap the benefits of using CAT tools and receive repeat content discounts throughout the lifetime of your translation needs.

Why is it important to have a translation memory?

Before embarking on a new translation project, it is important that all preparation stages are completed successfully as this will help the project to run smoothly. Depending on your previous experience with translation, you may or may not be in possession of a TM. We can assist you with evaluating and reformatting your existing resources, or can create a TM from scratch, for each of your required languages.

Creating a TM is an excellent measure to take when embarking on a new relationship with a translation provider as it will result in consistency throughout the translated literature, provide support for future projects, and also result in repeat content discounts in the long-run.

We will either evaluate and reformat your existing TM, making it compatible with our CAT tools, or create one from scratch on receipt of all your previously translated content (both source and target). We will then deliver this to you to personally check and sign off prior to the start of your translation project with us.

How it works

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

We will ask you to provide either your existing TM, or all your previously translated content – both source and target languages – in order for strings to be extracted and a TM to be created. If you have an existing glossary of terms, then we will ask that you also make this available.

Your dedicated Project Manager, or one of our Localisation Engineers, will create the bilingual TM based on the material provided. If you have an existing TM, then they may simply evaluate the resources provided and reformat them in order to be compatible with the CAT tools we use. Your Project Manager may ask you to provide further clarification, as and when required. They will provide a final version of the TM to be signed off by your in-country teams, if available.

Please note that this service only includes the creation of a TM and does not include any other preparation stages of the translation project. This is a one-off service to be carried out when embarking on a new working relationship with us. Any updates or supplementary terminology management will be charged at additional rates.
