Description

The linguistic and contextual review is an additional element of quality assurance which can be added to your Smartling translation workflow. An independent reviewer would log into to Smartling in order to look over the translated content and make amendments which will improve the quality of the translated content. We would require the need for a linguistic and contextual review within Smartling to be outlined at the start of the project in order to set-up our reviewers with adequate log in details and incorporate them in your translation workflow.

Overview

Smartling is becoming a popular translation management system (TMS) that has been carefully developed over several years to provide a simple and effective way to manage and translate your website content. If you have translated your website content within Smartling, and want to review or edit your translated content, then you also need to conduct these activities within Smartling.

If you want to add an additional layer of quality assurance to your Smartling translation workflow then it will be necessary to incorporate this stage into the system. You may prefer your in-country colleagues to conduct the review, however when this is not possible, we can provide you with a linguistic and contextual review service that is performed by a specialist reviewer who is a native speaker of the target language, and who will work directly in the Smartling What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) review environment.

Quality process

The process begins by completing a briefing questionnaire to clarify your objectives. This briefing will be visible to all the team members involved with delivering the service and is the foundation for all our quality checks.

We will employ a team of professional reviewers who are native speakers of the target language and with specialist knowledge and experience in your industry to perform a review of the translated content looking at style and consistency across the board.

The quality checks performed by the reviewer at this stage involve the following:

  • A careful comparison of source and target texts, identifying potential mistranslations, checking accuracy and terminology consistency, etc.
  • A fresh look: assessing the translation as an independent text that has to conform to target readers' expectations, concentrating mostly on style.

The third party reviewer will work within Smartling's WYSIWYG environment, raising Issues along the way when clarification is required or questions need answering, before finally submitting the content to the next stage in the translation workflow dictated by Smartling.
