Explaining our best practice approach to software localisation

What our clients say

Technical translations of an extremely high standard

For the last eight years we have worked closely with Webcertain to deliver translated technical manuals of an extremely high standard for our European and Chinese markets. Webcertain has also translated resource files to allow our overseas users to operate our machinery in their native languages with ease. Webcertain has gone above and beyond our expectations and we are proud to continue collaborating with them.

Why is software localisation important?

If you are planning to launch a software package in overseas markets, you need to make sure that your software is available in the native language of your target audience. We understand that software localisation can be both challenging and time consuming and offer a solution to help you achieve your goals efficiently and effectively.

Blending the skills of professional translators and Software Localisation Engineers, our software localisation service will provide localised content which is user-friendly and ready for global distribution.

Our software localisation service brings these two elements together, saving you both time and money and delivering fully localised software which will start working for you immediately in your target markets.

How it works

The software localisation process begins with us taking a detailed brief from you, identifying any features which may have an effect on the user interface of the translated software: encoding, sorting order, time and date formats, numeric formats etc. that will potentially need adjusting for certain markets.

We are able to handle the translatable strings of text as either a resource file extracted from the software at your end, or we can have our engineers create a resource file if you provide us with all of the available source material relevant to your software package.

The service will be delivered by professional translators who understand the target audience and your products, as well as Software Engineers who can assess the more technical aspects of your software.

Depending on your individual requirements, the standard localisation process may include the following basic steps:

  • analysis of material received, depending on the file format
  • creation and maintenance of terminology glossaries
  • translation into the target language(s)
  • adaptation of the software user interface, including resizing of forms and dialogs where necessary
  • localisation of graphics, scripts or other forms of on-screen text, if required
  • linguistic and functional QA
