The Russian companies Yandex and Sberbank have announced that they plan to launch a joint e-commerce marketplace named Beru in autumn 2018. Beru will be available at beru.ru, as well as on iOS and Android apps. Sberbank’s CEO Herman Gref commented on the announcement, saying that he wanted Beru to be a “Russian Amazon”. Yandex has said that it hopes Beru will reach ₽500 billion within the first five years. Beru will start off selling around 25,000 items, including electronics, homeware, household appliances and children’s items. This figure is set to climb to over 1 million items within the first few years.
